MADDY & ZAK

- MT. TABOR & THE HISTORIC OVERLOOK HOUSE -

Portland, OR

This was easily one of the most unique weddings I have ever photographed. From the moment the ceremony began, it was clear this day was going to be completely their own. Guests were even invited to vote on what the officiant said during the ceremony, which made everyone feel like they were part of the moment rather than just watching from the seats.

Music was woven throughout the whole day. The couple and members of the wedding party actually sang during the ceremony, and because the bride is an opera singer, her voice filled the space in the most incredible way. Later during the reception, she and her choir performed together, which felt so powerful and joyful. One of my favorite moments was when the bride and her dad danced the tango, dramatic, elegant, and so much fun to watch.

The whole celebration leaned into the couple’s interests in the most playful way. The theme blended opera, board games, and dinosaurs, which somehow worked perfectly together. The groom has a large dinosaur tattoo, so the entire wedding party gave themselves dinosaur temporary tattoos to match, and little dinosaur figures were tucked into the decor everywhere. Paired with the bright multicolored flowers and vibrant palette, everything felt bold, creative, and completely alive.

The entire day was interactive, colorful, and full of personality. Guests were laughing, participating, singing along, and celebrating in a way that felt truly joyful. It was one of those weddings where you could feel how much the couple’s creativity and love shaped every detail, and it was an absolute blast to witness and capture.
